Join Fran Morrison, BC Black History Awareness Society for this informative presentation on the original black settlers in B.C., who represented a wide spectrum of backgrounds, skills, and interests and contributed substantially to the settlement of the Colony of Vancouver Island and the Province.

This presentation relies on archival records, including images, genealogy records, newspapers,
manuscripts, and books. Specific archival materials are included and/or referenced throughout the
presentation.

About the presenter:

Fran originates from Nova Scotia. Her maternal ancestors are Black Loyalists; arriving in Nova Scotia after the American War of Independence in 1783. Her paternal ancestors arrived in Nova Scotia from Maryland via the Underground Railroad. Fran moved to B.C. with her family in 1992.

Fran has earned the PMP® designation; graduate certificate from George Washington University School of Business and Public Management, and completed Executive Education Programs at Sauder School of Business, UBC. Fran has worked in the private and public sector for more than 25 years in project management, operations management, contract management, business administration; planning and leading strategic and tactical initiatives for enterprise-wide projects and programs.

As a Director with BC Black History Awareness Society since 2010; Fran manages and oversees content research and development for the Society’s website; fosters community partnerships, designs, develops and delivers projects and presentations on early BC Black History; and is currently the Board Secretary.
