Docuseries: Black History Month

All Day

Visit the Launchpad to catch some Canadian documentaries courtesy of the National Film Board (NFB). We will be screening documentaries centering Black stories in celebration of Black History Month all day for two weekends in February.

Saturday, February 4 - Sunday, February 5:

  • John Ware Reclaimed (72 min) follows filmmaker Cheryl Foggo on her quest to re-examine the mythology surrounding John Ware, the Black cowboy who settled in Alberta, Canada, before the turn of the 20th century

Saturday, February 18 - Sunday, February 19:

  • Ice Breakers (15 min) reveals the buried history of a pioneering Black hockey league in Atlantic Canada
  • True North: Inside the Rise of Toronto Basketball (89 min) follows three young athletes as they navigate today’s youth basketball machine in pursuit of their own NBA dreams

Mask wearing continues to be appreciated and encouraged in our libraries, especially in situations where maintaining personal space can be challenging.
