In this session Monique will share her journey to becoming an author and how it was one person saying to her, "I look forward to reading your book one day," that changed everything. Monique will share her various children's books, her process in writing and will read from her latest book, Kohkum's First Drum. This book is loosely based on her mom receiving her first drum at the age of 82, and in a gentle and uplifting way, helps students understand one Indigenous family's experience. There will be opportunity for students to ask questions
Monique Gray Smith is an award-winning, best-selling author and sought after consultant. Her books are used to share wisdom, knowledge, hope and the important teaching that love is medicine. Monique is Cree and Scottish and has been sober and involved in her healing journey for over 34 years. She is well known for her storytelling, spirit of generosity and focus on resilience.
