We are reading Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver in May. It reimagines David Copperfield in contemporary Appalachia, following Demon, a resilient boy born into poverty and addiction. He confronts systemic neglect and opioid crisis through foster care, exploitation, and loss, using wit and determination to survive and assert his place in a cruel, unequal world.
