2:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Description

This page is for online participation. If you wish to join the program physically, please visit the Hybrid In-person page.

Bring in Asian Heritage Month on Saturday, May 2 at 2 p.m. with the Richmond Public Library, at the Brighouse (Main) Library100 – 7700 Minoru Gate, as well as on Zoom, with author Jacqueline Louie presenting on her new book, Honouring the Gold Mountain Dreamers, which looks back at the century-plus since the passing of the 1923 Chinese Immigration Act, a federal law that virtually banned all immigration from China to Canada for nearly a quarter century.

Jacqueline will be joining us virtually, and Winnie Kwan will be joining us in person. Winnie is a practitioner who curates local history and connects it with the community, and she will share her professional insights on the work of UBC’s Centre for Asian Canadian Research and Engagement, as well as its collaboration with the Richmond Museum.

Jacqueline Louie is a Calgary-based freelance writer whose ancestors immigrated to Canada in the late 1800s. Honouring the Gold Mountain Dreamers is her first book. For more information, please visit her personal website and the Chinook Country Historical Society.
