I understand why there is vicissitude in Sergeant Rasmussen's treatment of the German soldiers, but it is still too much, at times.

Revenge is a monster that often feeds upon itself and writer/director Martin Zandvliet’s wide pans of grey waves and treacherous beaches quickly becomes a metaphor not only for the inhumanity of war but for the lingering effects it has on…

Astonishing and faithful (if disturbingly gruesome) retelling of an overlooked period in Danish history. After the WWII ends, a group of captured German soldiers (very young men) are forced to work as human mine sweepers along the Danish…

Agree with other reviewers about difficult subject matter. I am interested in times of transition, and this portrays one such period: the end of the second world war. German soldiers were declared "demobilized enemy," rather than POWs,…

Difficult subject. Difficult to watch.

This movie is disturbing, and some of it is hard to watch. It is compelling though, and I was hooked after about 45 minutes into the show. There are subtitles to read, but I wasn't too bothered by this. This movie is based on fact, and…

Profuse thanks to a friend on Twitter for suggesting this excellent film. We start by hating everyone, but then we watch as each are challenged by their situation. It’s a complicated affair as the characters all develop. Highly…

This docudrama exposes the untold story about the German teen-aged soldiers who faced overwhelming odds in their survival in a post-war Denmark. Though sad and heart-wrenching, the life-or-death events make a somewhat savage sergeant…

Gripping true story of having German boys sweep the beaches for mines after the war.

It's not an actor's movie really. The landscape is so harsh--all that sand and a few buildings that look pretty bedraggled--and the story is almost too simple. Just defuse the mines and avoid being blown up. I kept wondering when the Red…

Martin Zandvliet has directed a semi-interesting story on the abuse of (barely) teenage German prisoners - here used to defuse land mines on Danish beaches. If he could have avoided the bathos of one of the prisoners saving a local child…

A Danish-German film with English sub-titles. Based upon a true story of Danes forcing captured German soldiers after WW 2 to remove all the land mines from their beaches and the soldiers suffering the consequences of screwing up. The…

Understandably, few movies attempt to humanize German soldiers during WWII. "Land of Mine" is one of that dares to ask if later generations are to be held accountable for the hatred launched by their parents. As German troops leave…

Disgusting boring movie with lots of graphic violence.

Very good film written and directed by Dane Martin Zandvliet about German soldiers after WWII forced to clear mines planted by Germany during the war from the beaches on Denmark. It is a bit slow moving, but a very interesting subject…

Didn't know what to expect. Normally don't get foreign films since can't read subtitles. But, I could read them and the story really captured me. Recommend it. The suspense, the meanness of war, aware of 'Denmark in war, and the…

If you don't want to read spoilers.....some of the reviews do contain spoilers. I was surprised by this film & very glad I took a chance - thankfully it has subtitles. Despite the brutality indicative of any war film, it has a strong…

Viscerally powerful yet humanistic. Rife with tedium/tension with occasional bursts of horror (forget the relentless boom-boom of Hurt Locker). Rolland Moller gave a complex/nuanced turn as the Danish sergeant who mistreated the boys…

Excellent movie about a very little know historical episode. Very hard to watch because of the physical and mental violence but interesting nonetheless.

An intense and compelling film with a timely message--when fighting monsters take care to subdue your own monsters/monstrous impulses. If you like the film then be sure to check out the Q & A with the director in the special features. Fine…

WOW!! What a powerful film. I guess it should not come as a surprise that no matter how many books one reads or films one sees there are still thousands of untold / unknown stories from WWII. This movie tests your idea of what is fair…

LAND OF MINE is a terrific and sad German foreign film set during the aftermath of World War 2. It takes place along the coast of Denmark, where surrendered and very young German soldiers are told to defuse and remove their own land mines…
