The Lightning Thief is the first of Rick Riordan’s novels in the Percy Jackson series. Percy is a dyslexic and ADHD student who constantly gets in trouble at school, and has gotten expelled nearly every year. However, when he gets attacked by a monster during a field trip, he begins to realize the truth about him: his father is a Greek god. He is sent to Camp Half-Blood to learn to fight against monsters, and soon realizes that his father is Poseiden. Because of this, he is blamed by Zeus for stealing the master bolt, Zeus’s most deadly weapon. Percy, with his friends Grover and Annabeth, must go on a quest to confront the believed thief Hades and retrieve the bolt, knowing that failure means his death.
This is a fast-paced book with new adventures coming every moment. Percy is constantly confronted by monsters and gods, and he does not know who to trust. This constant element of surprise keeps the book very entertaining. Also, Riordan adds a lot of humour to these encounters, so the book cannot be considered dull at all. Riordan develops the characters of Percy’s friends very well, and we see many sides of them. For example, Grover wants desperately to help his friends, but feels like he is unable to do so. Adding these elements leads to a better story. This book is the first of a series of five, and it will keep you wanting to read more.
The Lightning Thief is a 2005 American fantasy-adventure novel based on Greek mythology, it was the first young adult novel written by Rick Riordan in the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series. The Lightning Thief is narrated in the first person past tense by Percy Jackson, a twelve-year-old diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD. I enjoyed reading this because it was really funny and it had some amazing twists and turns. I would recommend this book to teens 13 and up. Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief was really good that it would take you on a crazy ride all about gods and monsters. Rating: 4/5 @PrettyKitty of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
I have just reread the first book and it's just as I good as a remembered. It's so well written with jokes here and there. This series in general is so amazing and is like a Greek Mythology lesson that people look forward to reading. So excited for the TV show!!!
Amazing book to read - it intrigues as much as possible and ends with a slight cliffhanger that would force you to read the entire series. Descriptions are very vivid and fluid.
WARNING! If you read this book, you'll get sucked into an amazing series and may never escape! I began reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians back in March, and I had had The Lightning Thief for a while before that. One of my friends recommended it to me and I thought, "sure, why not? I'll pick it up and see if it's good." And I'm so glad I did, because this series is chock full of relatable characters, action-packed scenes, and (surprisingly accurate) Greek mythology. Rick Riordan is incredibly funny, and the chapter titles are hilarious. I love how all his books tie into the same universe. The Lightning Thief is the first out of 5 books, which is the first series out of (currently) 3. Now that that's out of the way, I'll actually get into the book. (SPOILER ALERTS AHEAD!) The main character is, duh, Percy Jackson. He has ADHD and dyslexia and seems to get kicked out of every school he goes to. Disaster seems to follow him wherever he goes, but then, (Gasp!) he finds out he's a demigod, half-human, half-god! And guess what, his best friend Grover is actually a satyr, half-human, half-goat. Anyways, stuff happens, adventure bites at every corner, and Percy arrives at Camp Half-Blood unconscious. His new best friend, (and later to be girlfriend) Annabeth Chase wakes him up, and then quest time, after some big things happen in between. (I'm not giving away everything.) Their quest: find the lightning bolt stolen from Mount Olympus, home of the gods. The Big Three, Zeus, Posideon, and Hades, all blame each other. The three of them have made a pact to not have any children after WWII, but Percy being alive kind of breaks that rule. Zeus blames Percy for stealing the bolt, and now Percy, Annabeth, and Grover have to find it to prove Percy's innocence. (Okay, I'm going to stop saying Percy now. I mean now.) Anyways, to find out what happens, you now need to read the book! I'd give it 5 stars if people didn't think that'd be unrealistic, so I'll have to settle for 4.9.
This is the incredible book that started an incredible series by an incredible author. So much fun to read, and you can tell how well the author understands Greek mythology
[MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS] This series is awesome. While the introduction is a little sloppy, it is filled with enough humor and goes quickly to make way for the real introduction. Awesome series, although Rick seems to be mentioning the ADHD clique too lightly. This series goes a little slow at times, like book #4, but is thoroughly entertaining. This series sets pavement for the other series in the same world, which are just as if not more entertaining. Recommend.
Before reading this, I always thought Rick R. was just another overrated, overblown author (like JK rowling's, which sucks terribly). It's great that I was wrong, because it meant more good books for me to consume!
Me encanta est libro! He sugerido este a muchos de mis amigos y familia! Hay muchas detalles pequeños que añaden mucho a la historia de Percy.
SPOILER FREE- What can I say, I LOVE THIS BOOK. The characters are amazing, the plot is thrilling and engaging, the action is perfectly written and is great. This was Rick Riordans first adventure into Greek mythology and he handles it perfectly, making it believable that the Olympians are still roaming in New York. I absolutely love Percy as a character and narrator. This is not only one of the best Percy Jackson books, not only one of the best Rick Riordan books, but of the best books of all time.
Percy Jackson is so awesome I love it 10/10, Whether you're a beginner or not it's an awesome choice. Rick Riordan is a genius.
After getting hooked on the Percy Jackson series, I found this book to be amazing! It's filled with action, drama, and everything in between! I cannot stop reading this series!
Percy Jackson is just another normal 12 year old boy living in New York, except he has ADHD and is picked on by many of his teachers and peers. When one of his teachers suddenly turns livid, Percy's life changes forever. His only friend, who turns out to be half human, leads Percy to a camp like no other, where he does not only find the truth about his father, but also embarks on a risky quest with new acquaintances to take back a stolen lightning bolt.
The Lightning Thief is the first book of a 7-book series filled with suspense, elementary humor, and references to mythology that will keep the reader turning the page to the end of the plot; The plot may be quite complex to young readers, but is beneficial in developing their vocabulary. For those who have read this before, it is worth rereading, as it brings back many childhood memories.
*I highly recommend reading the book instead of watching the movie, which was poorly directed.
I really loved this book. I learned so much about greek mythology and had a good laugh. I totally recommend.
I remember hearing about this book from so many people. So many people from my school kept urging me to read it, since it was a very popular read for middle schoolers. I used to read this book, slowly, day by day, until I finished, and then moved on to the rest of the series. Personally, I enjoyed the book, mainly because it connected our life to the life of greek demigods. It’s a way to escape from reality, and learn about the life of different people. I liked this book so much, I finished the entire series and reread it again. I also continued to read books of the same author, Rick Riordan, a really popular author. He mainly writes books about mythology. The Lightning Thief is just a start of what comes next. The rest of the series is amazing as well. I definitely recommend this book, and I really recommend reading the book before watching the movie.
This is the best book in the world! you haven't lived till you've read the Percy Jackson series.
Percy is a spirited, friendly, brave and sometimes goofy 12 year old boy trying to save his mom, and oh yeah also Western Civilization as we know it. Grover, his best friend/satyr is a sweet, loyal, and lovely soul who wants to help his friends and cares deeply for the Earth and all its creatures, and Annabeth, wonderful Annabeth is a complex girl with smarts, strength and whit that won't quit. If you haven't started this series already, what are you waiting for???
This book was amazing!! Loved it! I totally recommend the BOOK not the MOVIE (IT WAS TERRIBLE) seriously, don't watch, READ!!!!
I enjoyed reading "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief". It is full of action and it makes me continue reading the book. After reading the first book, I liked it so much, I finished the series.
I can't wait to read this!!! My friends have been requesting it for a while, and now I really want to read it; I've been too stuck reading Harry Potter.
When I was first given this book to read, I adamantly refused to read it, then I decided to try and see if I would like it, so I read it. As of now, I have read every one of Riordan's books, and I have loved every one!
