Possibly Jodie Foster's best film.

I really enjoyed this movie: the acting, cinematography, and the story. Jodie Foster always seems to choose her scripts with care. In this movie, though she ends up being a "killer", the audience can't help but empathize with her plight as a victim. Yet, we have to ponder, "where does one draw the line"? "Was the killing necessary, or was it "overkill"? These questions stimulate thought and debate long after the movie ends and are the result of intelligent movies (even if they seem a bit far fetched). It's obvious (to me) that no matter what project Neil Jordan tackles, (in this case, he is the director) the outcome always seems (to me) a cut above the standard movie, book, series, etc. Well done Neil Jordan and all involved in his work.!

I understand the premise for this movie, that when something tragic happens to you and someone else that you care about, that maybe you shut down on the inside and maybe have feelings for revenge, but this is the second movie that I have seen Jodie foster play the victum role and it is not one of her strong points as an actress. I also understood Terrence Howard's role as the police detective that had compassion towards and for her, that made it the strong point of the movie.

I've always admired and respected Jodie Foster, her performances as an actor, and the discretion in which she chooses them. This role did not disappoint me. She WAS Erica Bain. This story of revenge was reminiscent of Charles Bronson's "Death Wish", the 1984 'subway vigilante' Bernhard Goetz, but... it stood apart as well. Terrence Howard was terrific as usual. Great ending (in my opinion).

Jodie Foster gave an excellent performance in this film that is not entirely original and yet not entirely trite. Sure, vengeance plots have been played numerous times, but this movie had a different feel. The cinematography irked me at times, but it eventually grew on me. Plus, I am a huge fan of the work of Neil Jordan (The Crying Game, Breakfast on Pluto, and Ondine).
