Well... I'll be honest: this novel falls short on so many levels that I'm not even certain that you can call it a novel... It started off with a very interesting plot but by Part 2 it just became a poor excuse for a book. Shreve basically sabotaged anything that could have, in my opinion, enhanced the storyline and made it interesting.

Good - but agree it's not one of her best. The descriptions of Africa and the people are the most interesting parts of the book.

Not one of Shreve's best. Don't hold out for a good ending.

A US couple --- Patrick a physician and Margaret a photojournalist --- set for an (3-yr) adventure in Kenya.

They befriend a British couple --- Arthur and Diana --- already living there.

The two couples plan scaling Mount Kenya. Diana slips off the glacier and dies.

this book relates the irrevocable impact of tragedy and the elusive nature of forgiveness.

Good read.

The descriptions of Africa were the only parts of this book that held my interest. I was indifferent towards the characters in this book and found the circumstances that led to the breaking point for this couple to be ridiculous. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone other than Anita Shreve fans.

I remember not being so impressed with The Pilot's Wife when I read it years ago. I feel the same way about this one.

I like this book too much. It is not only a novel. It describes places in Africa that really makes you imagine those places.

Good! Easy reading for relaxing
