This is an excellent addition to the Uglies series! I'm not typically a fan of manga but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Shay is such an interesting character and it is great to be able to explore her complexity and depth while seeing things from her side of the story.

An interesting twist on the original story, this manga shows the other side of the story of uglies from Shay's point of view. It gives you more details of the world and Shay's life before Tally. For any fan of the Uglies series, it is a must read.

Shay was my fav, but this made me love her even more.

I loved reading the "Uglies" series by Scott Westerfeld, but I felt like this manga novel didn't really tie in with the overall plot. It didn't lure manga-lovers like myself very efficiently, and the style was very altered from his original writing.

I LOVE the Uglies series but this graphic novel doesn't do it justice. Scott Westerfeld's writing style doesn't come through at all and it just comes off as a lure to grab some manga fans. Skip.

Although I though the original series was decent enough, I really didn't care for this tie-in. The relationship between Shay and David just irritated me. The explanation of David's scar was stupidly melodramatic. Zane seemed out of character a lot, and I disliked that Shay was depicted to have once been as invested in becoming Pretty as Tally was. I thought it undermined her. Also, people tell Shay things that she doesn't seem to remember at appropriate times in Uglies-the-novel. Sometimes adding more to the story makes it less.

so boring. I'd never read a graphic novel before and if all of them are like this, I'll never read another. The original novels are wonderful and I recommend them but not this one. If I hadn't read the series first, I wouldn't have gotten past page 2 in this book.

A great extension to the Uglies series. Straightforward enough to be read before the books, but also has new information for series lovers. Aspects of all four books are included, if you know to spot them. My only complaint is that Shay and the Uglies are too beautiful. They don't look any different than the Pretties. I guess that's supposed to be the irony. Love the black and white magna style.
