Brilliant book! The photography is splendid but the actual "Offices" will leave shaking your head. (These positions still are held by people.) Like the "Bearer of the Dog's Whipper Rod" who cleared the path of priests performing church services of the large number of dogs people brought into the church. One of my favorites is the "Dame de Roseld" who since 933, must be "ready at any time to ride into the sea up to her stirrups in order to meet the Duke of Normandy's boat. She must then carry the Duke ashore so his feet remain dry."
