Nora Roberts as J. D. Robb is practically habit-forming in the "...In Death" series. I didn't really notice the time element of these books in the beginning, though I noticed the sawed off lingo. I think these books are so well done in their content, plausibility, and down-right cleverness. These are murder mysteries, which is serious business, but she finds places throughout the book to inject humor and great descriptive love. All the characters are well-developed, and come across like people you might know. I can't get enough of Eve and Roark!
Well I am glad I finally read Nora Roberts as JD Robb. I wasn't enticed by the near future setting so have been avoiding it. Now that I have started, I don't want to stop. I love Eve Dallas! She is smart, sassy, inappropriate, irreverant, and the anti-politically correct! She has a soft side but visible only to a few. I started in the middle - can't wait to go back to the beginning. The near future setting was not distracting and even added to the story a little bit. Fun to imagine what it really might be like in 60 years. I also loved the supporting characters. This certainly isn't wonderful literary fiction but it was a great distraction from real life and I couldn't wait to get back to it. Listening to the audio version was a treat - complete with Irish accents! Loved it!
