From the author of Rare Earth and Gorgon comes this revealing look at the latest NASA research regarding alien life. A principal investigator for the NASA Astrobiology Institute - which examines the possibility of life on other planets and, more controversially, the possibility of creating non-DNA life in the lab - Peter Ward presents the latest data on the range of life that is scientifically possible in Earth and beyond. Authoritative and eye-opening, this is sure to provoke wonder and heated debate among professionals and lay readers alike.

Wonderful in depth survey of current thinking on the origin of life on Earth, as well as the search for life in the Solar System and beyond. Peter Ward makes accessible a complex and wide ranging field of research. Very fair and readable. Great use of humor, personal stories and humility to help keep the reader involved. Brings the scientific process to life.
