Add a QuoteHarry Burns: You know, you may be the first attractive woman I've not wanted to sleep with in my entire life.
Sally Albright: That's wonderful, Harry.
Harry Burns: Had my dream again where I'm making love, and the Olympic judges are watching. I'd nailed the compulsories, so this is it, the finals. I got a 9.8 from the Canadians, a perfect 10 from the Americans, and my mother, disguised as an East German judge, gave me a 5.6. Must have been the dismount.
Harry Burns: I love that you get cold when it's 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.
Harry Burns: I've been doing a lot of thinking, and the thing is, I love you.
Sally Albright: What?
Harry Burns: I love you.
Sally Albright: How do you expect me to respond to this?
Harry Burns: How about, you love me too.
Sally Albright: How about, I'm leaving.

Add a CommentA fantastic movie. I love how the characters evolve over time and keep reconnecting. It has lots of unforgettable scenes... I watched it recently and thoroughly enjoyed it again!
I hated this movie when it first came out but now that I'm older I love it. I think maybe I was too young to appreciate it. Strange but it might be true. I love Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal in this and it's a really hilarious and touching movie. Love the music from Harry Connick Jr and the fact that Nora Ephron wrote it.

There are no surprises in this film, other than the contemporary vulgar language liberally sprinkled throughout.
Directed by Rob Reiner in 1989, this American romantic comedy depicts a cross-country drive of the title characters.
It is a real talkie... talk, talk, talk...
The film makes a woman's faked orgasm become well-known, and Katz's Delicatessen in Manhattan where Sally showed her faked orgasm became quite famous.
Amazing and amusing!
One of the definitive examples of a great/cheesy romantic comedy.
Nice touch of older actors playing couples on how they met vignettes based on Nora's interviews as main plot jumped forward in time & actors' appearance changed.
Director & writer took pains to get the dialogue right especially between the men or the women & it shows.
Film released years before Spice Girl's "if you want to be my lover, first you got to be my friend" song.
A romantic comedy about two people falling from extreme dislike, into unlikely friendship, into love as they grow through their separate lives, and find their paths crossing unexpectedly. There is some very funny dialogue, and I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of the relationship that developed between the two characters, and their ultimate choice to love one another beyond the fleeting "warm fuzzies" that first love can inspire.
one of the reasons why this works is because Nora Ephron wrote the male voices after talking to men like Director Rob Reiner and others about what men think about when dating women. She already had the women parts down. But it is the voices of the Men that makes this the best rom-com of the last 30 odd years. The dialogue rings true. Not just the dialogue between the sexes, but the dialogue when each sexes are talking to one another. Example: When Billy Crystal and Bruno Kirby are talking to each other about women, especially in the batting cage scene; the dialogue rings true. Same when the Women are talking to each other in the Cafe in Central park.
Funny. Romantic. Great dialogue. Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan were terrific. And Carrie Fisher rocks!
