"Grippando has definitely reached a new level with this series entry. . . . One of his best." --Booklist (starred review)

A young girl's murder sets off a grisly cascade of crime, death, and intrigue--and sends criminal defense lawyer Jack Swyteck after a sinister group of terrorists on the verge of unleashing chaos across the globe. From New York Times bestseller James Grippando, the ninth Jack Swyteck novel, Afraid of the Dark--perfect for fans of Steve Martini, Phillip Margolin, and Jo Nesbo--is a rollercoaster thrill ride into the very heart of evil.

Another satisfying book by Grippando! The only downfall was the constant change of too many characters. It became a challenge to recall who was who. James should know...less is more!

I have have read all the Jack Swyteck character books and although I enjoy them I have had a hard time continuing to want to stick with him. This book grabbed me from page one but as I got further into the book it started to lose the main plot and continuously shifted characters making it a struggle to want to continue. I do agree with fellow reviews that the Grandfather connection was pretty weak. For me I lost interest in Jack and wanted to know more about Vincent and Andie.

This would have been a four star book but the ending was absolutely rubbish.

At first this seemed vintage Grippando- an interesting plot with good suspense. His last few books in the series were quite poor so this was a welcome change. Swytek , lawyer turned action hero tries to make sense of what he's become entangled in and it was interesting to see how his journey unfolded.

Sadly, the ending, coupled with a silly side plot involving his Grandfather spoiled a very good read.

I hope this is the last Swytek novel, and if it is, it's going out in semi decent fashion.

Grippando tried to do too much with the plot and in the end did not manage to follow any of the multiple twists to a satisfying conclusion. Okay book but nothing special

As all of James Grippando's books, this one is a great read. Fast paced, exciting, suspenseful.
