Eric Walters writes an epic story of adventure. I loved how he portrayed his relationship between his grandchildren and has chosen specific tasks for each individual grandsons according to their own characteristics. The eldest son climbing mt Kilamajaro was off the charts difficult but the determined son went out to accomplish it... he ran into many problems on the way but nothing caused him to turn back .. Talk about unconditional love and adventure!

The start of a great series, Between Heaven and Earth kicks off seven tasks to be performed by the grandsons of one awesome (but deceased) grandpa. Like his brother and the rest of his cousins, DJ must also complete one of his grandfather’s last requests. He must climb an African mountain and scatter his grandfather’s ashes at the top. The upside? He’s going to Africa. A trip! Just climb a mountain. 2 days to go up, 1 day to get down, he thinks. The downside? This trip is, in fact, a lot harder than he perceives, and the challenges along the way will make him question whether he can make it the top of the mighty Kilimanjaro or not. The unforgettable plot and realistic challenges, if you don’t have discipline within your heart, then it will keep you up till 4 am.

Between Heaven and Earth is the first series out of the other seven series that Eric Walters wrote. David McLean leaves a task for each of his seven grandchildren to complete for him. DJ is the oldest grandson out of the seven. His task was to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and to let out his grandfather’s ashes at the top of the mountain in Tanzania, Africa. DJ had lots of complicated issues. DJ got arrested at the airport for trying to smuggle drugs, human remains, into Tanzania, he got his equipment to climb the mountain and his things stolen while he was walking in the streets of Tanzania. He got many complications in journey on Mount Kilimanjaro. There were very old people in Tanzania who climbed the mountain more than 70 times and there were young people like DJ who didn’t make it up the mountain at all or who made it to the top of the mountain and didn’t come back down. There were also young people who can’t even make it half way up because of mountain sickness. Many young people don’t make it to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro because they rush and older people take their time. DJ thought he can climb and get back down the mountain easily in about three to four days, but it really it was going to take him about seven to eight days to climb and come back down the mountain. DJ then started realizing why his grandfather chose this task for him and that was because this task was perfect task for him because he likes to rush things and get them finished quickly, but this task will teach him to have breaks and to enjoy what he is doing and that not everything has to be done right away and so quickly. This book teaches a very good lesson that not everything can be done if you rush and that some things just need to be done slowly and clam.

Between Heaven and Earth, was written by Eric Walters, it is the first book in a series of seven books. This series is about each of the seven grandchildren of David McLean. After he passes away, he leaves behind a task for each grandchild to complete. In, Between Heaven and Earth, DJ, the oldest grandson, gets the task of going to Tanzania, Africa to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, and to hopefully release his grandfather’s ashes into the wind at the top of the mountain. During DJ’s journey he faces many challenges. He gets arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs (human remains) into Tanzania, having his belongings stolen and suffering from mountain sickness. During his trek up the mountain, DJ realizes why his grandfather chose this task for him. DJ is a person that preserves, but he wants to do everything quickly to get it over and done with. He thinks he can climb the mountain in three days, including coming back down. But in reality it will take him about seven days to reach the summit and to come back down. His grandfather knew this; that is why he sent him. He wants DJ to learn that sometimes you have to stop and smell the roses in life and not to rush thing. He needs to learn how to do this in order to climb the mountain, or he will never reach the summit to spread his grandfather’s ashes. I enjoyed reading this book because it was a unique book that is part of a unique series. I also think the title of the book is perfect. The locals near Mount Kilimanjaro refer to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro as the place between heaven and earth. Hence the title, Between Heaven and Earth, another reason why it is a perfect title is because David McLean’s ashes are scattered there. It was the purpose behind DJ’s trip to Africa in the first place, now David McLean can flow freely with the winds, between heaven and Earth.

Between Heaven and Earth is written by Eric Walters. The book is the first book in the seven series. The series is about children going on adventures such as climbing mountains, trekking through the tundra. This book is about a teenager named DJ who is given a task from his Grandfather’s will to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the largest mountain in Africa and leave this grandfather’s ashes on the top. DJ accepts the task with confidence because everyone says he is a great leader. Also, DJ has been climbing before so he thinks that it will be a walk in the park. DJ travels to Moshi Tanzania a city a few kilometers away from Mount Kilimanjaro. In Moshi DJ prepares for the hike by gathering equipment and planning for the hike. But DJ learns that Mount Kilimanjaro has claimed more lives than Mount Everest. DJ starts to think if he fails the climb, he will let down his grandfather. Then DJ regains his confidence because he finds out he is not climbing alone but with a team of locals who have climbed, the mountain five or six hundred times the locals claimed. DJ starts to climb the mountain and right away he starts to encounter problems such as falling rocks, cold nights, and the high altitude. Will DJ finish the climb or quit and let down his grandfather? Read Between Heaven and Earth to find out. The book is good with a sense for adventure. Also, it feels like this could really happen in real life. The plot and the story are very easy to understand and to follow. In conclusion, Between Heaven and Earth is a good book because it has adventure, easy to follow and feels realistic.

It was alright, the start was slow and uneventful, but as the book goes on, the excitement unfolds!

After the death of his grandfather, David McLean, DJ’s task is to take his ashes up to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, a place he never got to go to during his life despite flying many missions over Africa. A natural athlete and leader as the oldest of the seven cousins, DJ has no trouble understanding why his grandfather chose him for the job, expecting his trek to be more like a walk in the park as opposed to a real challenge. Along the way, DJ discovers his own strength will only take him so far though, and learning to take things slowly and rely on others just might get him further than he would if he were alone.
