Mo Willems manages to make a child's book engaging and funny for the adults reading to their child! I love his humor and the lesson in each story. My son loves reading him and so do I. There's a reason he's won so many awards.
Love these books!!! This was a hilarious take on “Little guys” vs “Big guys” have all the fun! This was such a fun read for the both of us. I love that my beginner reader is able to read this on her own without super challenging words, makes her feel proud!!
Piggie is upset when a whale takes the ball she found. Gerald offers a solution that will please everyone. Ages 0-6.
Awesome story line. Fun to read. The children really enjoyed it.
After nineteen books and five Geisel honours, Elephant and Piggie have reemerged to star in another funny, perceptive tale. Soon after Piggie finds a new ball, her joy fizzles as the titular "big guy" comes and takes it away. Piggie's distress literally bowls Gerald over; when Gerald recovers, he storms off the page to confront the big guy.
The big guy finally emerges - a land-going whale who appreciates the return of his "little ball" before lamenting that no one will play with him because of his size: "LITTLE GUYS HAVE ALL THE FUN." Mo Willems's lesson regarding false assumptions unfurls thanks to his usual command of pacing; he spaces jokes so as to keep readers giggling and turning pages and his speech bubbles overlap and vary appropriately in size. Yet another hit with kids and adults alike!
Mo Willems is an excellent children's lit author. This title is one of the best Elephant and Piggie books. I love discussing this with my kindergarten classes. You can talk about the social and relationship problems (and solutions!) as well as the concepts of print and reading strategies. I love discussing how reading express words written in large print vs. small print, colour of speech bubble, what speech bubbles are, and patterns in Mo Willems books (almost always a surprise or unexpected ending). The books are so simple and hilarious that I found my kindergarten students reading them at any spare moment they had! "I Love My New Toy" is another excellent book in this series.
A classic. Mo Willems does it again. A new friend is introduced in this book, which is awesome. A good laugh.
Another Mo Willems classic. Elephant and Piggy books are hilarious, very simple to read, and have plenty of Kindergarten and First grade sight words.
My love affair with eyeballs drawn by Mo Willems continues.
