Main character thinks he far, far cooler and more mysterious and suave than he actually is. Let's be clear, he spies on the very simple people around his very simple small town for unsteady money because he was unable to stay employed through standard avenues. He is a pesky guy around town who thinks he's doing his own wife a favour by being an emotionally and usually physically absent husband who can barely stand to have a civil conversation with her. Book was far too wordy, story could have been over in done with in 300 pages and the text up over 500. Most of the characters are morally sketchy and there's no one in particular who deserves to be rooted for. Not enjoyable to read. Completed August 2018.

I like this series and the author. Like his stand alone books even more. Great Canandian author!

I rarely score a book with five stars. This was an outstanding novel, the fourth one I have read by this author. He creates characters that are real people, and places them in situations that boggle the mind. There isn't always a romance or a happy ending, yet his books are extremely satisfying and thought-provoking. And, Mr. Barclay is a Canadian author!

Cal Weaver is a son-less father and his obsession on looking for the source of the drugs that led to his son's death is destroying his life. His wife Donna is hurting and their marriage is damaged. Giving a ride to a teenage girl one rainy night lands Cal in the midst of police investigations for 2 missing girls. Sad story, well written. Linwood Barclay novels are usually intense in some manner.

You can count on this author for a good thriller and this was no disappointment.

Not his best. Definite decline from his initial books. Very lazy in character development

I really liked this story and I liked his style of writing. I will get more of his books. I love finding a new author!

Once every decade, one should read a "low brow" novel. Thankfully I will not have to read another until 2024! Next time, I will just read the beginning and the end to find out "whodunit." Spoiler Alert: As expected the true villan is a minor character who cheats on his wife, not the masS murderer.

a couple too many twists on the ending, but good
