“'But don't try to appeal to my humanity now,' I rasped, my voice low and cold, unfamiliar, 'not when you forced me to admit that I'm a monster. Not when you tried to take away the only good thing I'll ever know. If he had died, I would've shown you a real monster.'”

“And the most ironic thing? If Kanin hadn't Turned me, I would never have met Zeke. But being a vampire meant I could never be with him either.”

“I put my hands on his chest, splaying my fingers, feeling his heart beat under my palm. Funny how such a simple thing like a heartbeat could fascinate me now that I didn't have one. Or maybe it was just Zeke's heart that I was fascinated with.”

“Kanin peered down at me, his impassive gaze softening just a touch. 'I am no longer your teacher, Allison,' he said quietly. 'You have been one of us for a while now. You have hunted, and you have killed. It is not my responsibility to curb you demon.' He glanced past me to the place Stick and the men had stood moments before. 'And I wanted to see what type of monster you had become.'”

“I don’t believe in fate... but... I do believe everything happens for a reason. That there is some plan, some meaning to this darkness we live in... Maybe I’m wrong, but it’s gotten me this far. It’s the reason I fight, the reason I can keep going, despite everything. And it... it led me to you.”

“This is the most I have ever been in the sewers in one place. If someone had said to me a month ago, 'Hey, Jackal, guess where you'll be spending most of your time in New Covington? Ankle-deep in shit!' I would've ripped their lips off.”

“'Don't tell me you fell something for the little . . . oh.' The vampire blinked, then curled his lip back, disgust and pity crossing his sharp features. 'Oh, sister. Really? That's just sad.'”

“Now we're going to save a bunch of dirty meatsacks from a bunch of dirty cannibals? Why don't we rescue some orphaned kittens and put food out for stray puppies while we're at it?”

Another good book by Julie Kagawa!
I got to say, before I started this one, I got stuck momentarily in my lack of desire to read another vampire book. But after I began reading, I really enjoyed the writing style and fell more in love with the characters than I did in the first book. This series captivates me. I think it has something to do with the full-frontal brutality of the world that is portrayed. There's no sugar-coating anything, which I feel actually helped me become immersed in this world.

This book kept surprising me with its reasonable and often unseen events. Kagawa did a great job continuing this storyline without it feeling too forced. Admittedly some of the ending was obvious to me, but I kept guessing because who knows? This is definitely one of the better vampire series available.

Bad-ass.

That is what this book is. It's fast-paced with lots of action (omg so much fighting! I love it!) The characters, old and new, are awesome with lots of delving into new areas of the dystopian world. Some amazing surprises and plenty of twists to keep the story interesting. If The Immortal Rules didn't impress you, I implore you to read The Eternity Cure. Julie Kagawa has blown my mind with this sequel and I'm certain she will blow yours too!

NOTHING BEATS THE IMMORTAL RULES! If this second book is anything like the first, this is going to be an awesome book!

Love Allison, nd i like her brother too. I was surprised by the fact that she had any family, since i was led to believe that her family died some time ago, byt i still liked him. I do wish though tht they told us a little more about zeke nd also wat happened to Stick. Would've been a good aftermath type thing.

I really enjoyed this second book. The ending was a complete and utter surprise, but so was the entire book. I can't wait until the next one.

A great follow up to the Immortal Rules. I don't hand out many 5 stars, but thus far this whole series is deserving of them! A great read for those who enjoy science fiction and a little bit of romance thrown in. Read it. Love it. Treasure it.

I have been waiting for the sequel of the Immortal Rules for a while now, and I believe that the EPL should acquire more copies of this book, for the demand is high, yet there is naught but one book available in the entire EPL system.
