A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces a battle with the invading king's successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom, and perhaps to Maleficent's true happiness as well.
"Maleficent feels classical in nature. The characters are boiled down to their essentials, the humor is timelessly broad, and Jolie's at her best when she's curling her claws and elongating her vowels like a black-sabbath Tallulah Bankhead."--Entertainment Weekly
" exquisitely designed, emotionally absorbing work of dark enchantment."--Hollywood Reporter
"The formula works."--Chicago Tribune

A visually stunning retelling of "Sleeping Beauty" from the "evil" fairy's point of view. Angelina is perfect in this role.

Great twist on the classic Fairy Tale.
The acting and casting are both good and the CGI is pretty decent.
Angelina absolutely nails this role.

An incredibly saddening movie, to see the pain and anger caused by betrayal. A very good retelling of the classic tale with the "villain" as the hero.

I despise this film. I thought the actors did a great job with what they were given, and the film is visually stunning. However, the story itself is terrible. I have always said that if you have to demonize other characters to make the re-telling work, then you're telling the wrong story. And it took demonizing King Stefan, making the queen a complete non-entity, and turning the three good fairies (one of whom, Merryweather, was my childhood hero) into complete idiots to make the story work. It didn't work for me at all. I would have much preferred an entire tale of Maleficent *before* Sleeping Beauty. Tell me about her entire life. Don't tell me the tale of Sleeping Beauty from a different point of view. I found the film poor because of it.

I love this side of the story about Sleeping Beauty and the "villain". I think Maleficent's story is good and think they did a good job with the story line and plot of the movie

This was a different version of Aurora. I really liked that instead of the villain being a heartless "bad guy", the villain was a completely different person with a kind heart. In this movie, young Maleficent falls in love with Stefan. They both promise to be with each other, but as years pass, Stefan grows selfish. He wants to be the king of the kingdom, and when Stefan gets to know that Maleficent is against the king, he knows what to do. Stefan meets Maleficent and decides to kill her. Although he couldn't get himself to take her life, he cuts her wings while she was asleep. Maleficent was heartbroken after knowing that Stefan deceived her. That's when Maleficent turns into a villain with a broken heart. Instead of being the kind queen of the fairies, she turned into an evil, and cruel queen. After a few years, Aurora was born. That's when Maleficent was furious and that's when she cursed Aurora, as shown in the original movie. Although Maleficent hated Aurora, she felt a strange connection with her. Aurora felt the same. When Aurora was sixteen, she started talking to Maleficent and thought of her as her fairy godmother. Maleficent started loving Aurora as a daughter and tried to reverse the curse, but it was impossible. As shown in the original, Aurora pricks her finger on a wheel, and falls into a deep sleep. There was a prince who was in love with Aurora in this movie, but, he did not have the power to wake Aurora. This movie shows that a true love's kiss does not have to be from a handsome prince charming. Everyone has the power to love. Even a villain. This was a very unique movie that was shown from a completely different perspective. I definetely recommend watching this movie! In May of 2014, the heart wrenching spin off of Aurora came out, called Maleficent. This movie was such a big hit, and it was obvious why, this movie was amazing! There were many similarities to Maleficent, and Aurora, however it has a modern spin on it, and a slightly different plot. The acting was spot on, and the graphics looked so realistic; this movie takes you to a different place. Ever since this movie got released, I have probably watched it a dozen times because of how much I enjoyed it. I would rate this movie a 4.5 out of 5 stars. People ages of 5 all the way up to 95 can probably enjoy this film, which is why I think you should definitely watch it!

The movie Maleficent is a different version of sleeping beauty created by Disney. Young Maleficent, being the queen of the fairies, falls in love with a young boy Stefan. Over the years Maleficent and Stefan's love fades... One day the king invades fairy lands and gets attacked by Maleficent. The king then announced that whoever can kill Maleficent and bring back her wings would become king. Stefan then betrays Maleficent leaving her with no wings after cutting them off while she was asleep. To get revenge on Stefan, Maleficent curses Stefan's future daughter, not knowing that she fell in love with her. Only true love's kiss could save Stefan's daughter, and that kiss was from no price but Maleficent. This story was quite different from the original Disney Sleeping Beauty. When that sleeping beauty was sleeping, a prince woke her up... but in "Maleficent", Maleficent had the power to wake her up even though she was so angry to put a curse on her. A beautiful movie full of love.

Wow... MALEFICENT was MAGNIFICENT! Breathtaking and visually gorgeous. Good story and awesome acting.

A visually striking re-imagining of SLEEPING BEAUTY, MALEFICENT exceeded my expectations. The story was simple but Angelina Jolie knocked it out of the park with her performance. And since the focus is always on her, every scene is breathtaking art. I reveled in it. It was truly a fairy tale. I definitely recommend it.
