Although this is one of Shakespeare’s more popular plays, I was not very impressed. I didn’t find the characters to be very likeable, the story line felt slow moving to me, and the ending was not satisfying at all. I do, however, think that Shakespeare did a great job at developing Hamlet’s character. I think that there just needed to be more action within the plot, or another side plot, to keep the story more interesting. I disliked how the play concluded, and thought that it made the entire lead-up pointless. I was delighted by the story. Some wonderful humor. Thank goodness for the translation into modern English.

One of Shakespeare's most famous play wrights, the story follows a character called Hamlet who is saddened by his father's death and angered when the ghost of his father tells him his uncle had murdered him. Hamlet goes in a downward spiral breaking his relationships and even killing some people in order to prove and murder his uncle. The story of Hamlet has action and is an ironic story involving deceit and suspense made for the avid reader. I would give this book 4 out 5 as a result of it’s story, it may be tedious at times but makes up for that during moments of intense confrontation between opposing characters. Hamlet is another famous story by Shakespeare. The fictional tale is about a man named Hamlet, who is the son of the deceased King of Denmark. After the King’s death, Hamlet’s uncle quickly marries the King’s widow and takes over the throne. This disturbs the Danish Prince, but what adds to his troubles is the fact that he soon begins to see his father’s ghost, who tells him about his treacherous uncle. The ghost encourages Hamlet to avenge his father’s death, which causes a lot of drama. The story is quite dark, and at times, it makes one wonder whether or not the protagonist has gone completely insane. However, in spite of its basic plot, there is a lot of complexity due to the number of characters and their development over time. The drama is also complemented with lots of action. I like the whole story from the beginning to the end, where Hamlet gets revenge and where he dies.

I enjoyed this Shakespeare play more Han I expected to. It had so many famous lines. This version also helped as it is side by side translations.

A really good book. This easy to understand version is good for younger ones to understand in the modern age. SPOILER ALERT I'm so sad that Hamlet and Ophelia died. They don't deserve that, but this is why Shakespeare's plays are immensely popular. A lovely tragedy.

Hamlet is easily my favorite play written by Shakespeare, or even my favorite play of all time. When I haven't read through it in a while, this edition works as a great refresher for the sections that are a little more difficult to "decipher." It also makes it easier to read the play leisurely as if it were a story. I would recommend it both to students studying the play for class or just someone who is interested in the sad and beautiful tale of prince Hamlet.

A very helpful text to get familiar with the story line, plus the original play right next to the translation. Very good book for its clarity, a starter at least.

To my mind, the best play ever written! It was originally a Scandanavian epic that had been around awhile, and he put his own twist on it in a highly polished manner. It is so well thought out; everything interconnects. It has it all: irony (how Claudius gets his just desserts in the end), comedy, poetry, fantastic drama (with good old-fashioned revenge as well!), mystery, philosophy (some parts are very existential: why don't we just end it all when we're tired of it all? Because we fear the unknown aspect of our death), and the constant threat of an oncoming threat. It doesn't get better than this methinks!

Shakespeare has many well written plays. This is one of the best. In this book they have the modern text on one side and original on the other. I finished it very quickly considering it is his longest written play. Super exciting and lots of action. Hamlet's character is interesting and dynamic. I would recommend this for anyone who is interested in revenge, action and of course Shakespeare.
