****************************** 20 STARRED Review *************************
Brilliantly conceived, written and acted; one helluva swashbuckler --- with great cinematography!
Nam-yi, the main character, is one ferocious fighter and master tactician --- and loyal and loving brother.
[Movie brings to mind the historical event of the death of the Mongol general, Sartai, at the hands of the Korean monk, Kim Yun-hu.]
i read the book 1177 the year civilization collapsed., and this spoke of the same arrows that were used and fashioned. i can't say the elements are same. from eygpt to manchu. I informed those of this movie and I will search for more. thanx. for sharing.
Short and sweet. See the movie.
This movie spins between fast action paced scenes then slower scenes between a brother and a sister and her new husband. It is visually beautiful and a great watch.
War of the Arrows: Initially, I couldn’t decide on whether to watch, “War of the Arrows, in its English language or its originating Korean speaking tongue. In the English version dub, I noticed, the movie utilized, for the protagonist role, “Zoro’s” voice from “One Piece”, the anime series. I did try the Korean version…I liked it, too…as I felt to touch its tact, to touch its genuine and natural feel, it, the experience, should be any foreign film’s rule number-one, number-one requisite, to do. Arrows quite much at times, seemed to do most of the loquacious talking. And to add to this, as to then what I saw…it was as an aerial onslaught of furious, flying arrows, all being loosened and unleashed by there being barely a brief moments brevity between bending and having unbent bows; and they, these bended bows and aerial arrows, being wielded, gripped, and grasped via visceral, deadly archers, whom they, themselves, these archers, would perform aerial-arts, in such a deadly fashion, as like watching one found in deadly duel…and these archers were evidently no stranger to war and its burning bite. I generally dislike and loathe aerial warfare and aerial warfare movies, as I like to see potential enemies and my potential enemies up close and personal, (with conceptual words and with ardent action), but…whatever. I still liked the emotion of the initial, disillusioned protagonist, who was coming off as having high, heavily depressed, intoxicated, brooding spirit; he initially would even say such a thing as “what’s the point?” Main character guy has got huge major hero stats going for him, pouring from pin-point accuracy and from his being able to be evasive and him being ludicrously lucky, like a nine-lives, living-dying cat…and additionally, stats seemed to be pouring from a determined will, to do all that what he would will…and from this, his will, it would warrant his likely eventual death, but not before bequeathing near and nigh a scores more to their own tangible, morbid aftermaths. A hero’s resolve he has…for sure. Now when it had come…to some, and especially of particular, the very opening action scene, I quite rightly was…and might have been…or had become…visually, rigorously retarded; and because of those fast few action scenes, I thought that I might have been flim-flammed and blinded of my sight via its nebulous and scintillating pixel per second, celerity…as it, in those action scenes, had felt jarringly jerky and overly zealously hazy. Although, and to this, that I had just momentarily made mention, I offer my humble defense, my arrogant apology, and/or my weak excuse: being, my brain-bucket, at time of watching said movie, it was in such an unusual heightened hasted state of feeling heavily, heinously hurting. So maybe I was somewhat impaired even before the movie partaking. In any matter, I felt and I thought movie was overall of my merit: well received, via how well, it was conceived. Rating: 4.0/5.0; -Xandor Who
Good action movie.
This is a great movie! Lots of suspense, action and highlights the love between a man and a woman, a sister and a brother.
An historically accurate tale about courage and honor.
One of the best movie that I have seen. It keeps my attention from the first minute to the last. The actors and actresses are chosen perfectly for their roles. The story make sense and orderly executed.
I watched it twice and still like it.
The best archer in the whole world. The no.1 in history.
This Korean action film depicting the story of a skillful archer fighting off invading Manchurians from the Qing Dynasty of China. Apparently this was a box office hit in Korea when it was shown on the big screen. Visually it is very pleasing to look at but the story itself is fairly routine. Some bow and arrow sequences are a bit over-the-top. I place this film below other much better films from Korea set in a modern day setting.
