Good – The Southerner (1945) 92 min. Well-made drama about a family who leaves the city to try their hands at farming but are met with incredible obstacles; both natural and man-made. The film was nominated for best director, sound, and score. The part of Granny Tucker played by Beulah Bondi had to be the inspiration for the Granny role in The Beverly Hillbillies down to the rocking chair; though I can’t find any evidence that supports this claim.
