The final installment in the Pink Carnation series ended up being my favorite of the bunch. As ever, I thought the modern plotline dragged down the book a bit, but it bothered me less than in previous installments, and the historical elements are so well done -- featuring a fun spy plot, as ever, and an exceptionally well-matched hero and heroine -- that my impatience with the occasional 21st century chapters was less severe than in previous installments. While my feelings about these books have tended to vary a bit depending on the book (Willig writes very distinctive heroines, with the result being that fans of one book might not necessarily be fans of the next one), I overall wholeheartedly recommend this series for fans of historical romance and espionage--Willig's characteristic clever dialogue and witty banter is among some of the best in the genre. (And how refreshing for the author of a long-running series to save her best for last.)
This was my favorite book of the Pink Carnation series. Jane has always been my favorite character in this series and I enjoyed seeing her achieve her happily ever after!
