Don't be afraid to delve into the good, bad, and sometimes truly ugly world of germs. Microbiologist Jennifer Gardy, who calls herself a disease detective, picks up her microscope to bring expert insight to the microbes that are all around us but are too small to see. Irreverent, playful, and contagious in all the best ways, It's Catching discusses a range of germs and the diseases they cause, from the common cold to food poisoning to the Ebola virus.

Kids will be enticed--and pretty grossed out--while becoming immersed in information about pus, bacteria, DNA, genomes, and more. They will learn how germs have shaped human history and also about the individuals who are working to hunt them down. Additional elements, like trading card-style profiles of a variety of diseases, a board game, and a detailed index, make this infectious read both useful and entertaining.

this book did a really good job at explaining the different sorts of diseases in the world. the pictures added a lot of colour to the book to keep it interesting. i learned many things i didnt know before that i believe are very important to know. it was fun to read as it gave good but easy to understand examples, by compared them to things that were easier for the reader to understand and relate to.

Wow, I learned so much from this book! Gee, I didn't know so many germs were so dangerous- like the types of food poisoning! I was shocked when I read that the food poison, clostridium botulinium, is the same stuff as botox! I loved learning how they affect our immune system, and how various scientists over centuries of years have learned new things, in many different ways. I think this book could be improved further if they used real life examples, and included EVEN MORE germ types, as I really loved reading about their danger rating, symptoms, and whatnot. Truly a "fun fact" book, in the best way possible! :)

This was honestly a really intresting book to read because it explained so much about germs and answered so many questions about virusees and why we get them. It was also great timing because we were doing the cell unit in Science when I read it! Great Read!

Do you want to know more about germs and microbes? Even if you don't, this book is sure to attract you with its uniqueness and cute illustrations. To be honest, I didn't care about germs at first; but then I read "It's Catching" and learned so much interesting information such as different types of diseases and bacteria, how to prevent illness, symptoms, cool experiments and more. What I liked reading about the most is how certain things like different viruses, vaccines and antibiotics were discovered, since each story is original yet amusing, and happened to real people, not a fictitious character in a book. On each page there are cute diagrams and engaging facts about the hidden world of microbes. There are also interactive activities and experiments you can conduct all throughout the book. Finally, although "It's Catching" is humorous, it retains a sense of seriousness, reminding you that catching an illness is nothing to take lightly. This book comes with tips to stay healthy and contains so much information that is presented in such intriguing way, you won't get bored reading it. Great book!

I would recommend "It's Catching" to anyone, since everyone should know about what is presented in this book.

A very interesting book, with lots of information, and well detailed. I liked learning about Ebola, Measles, etc, also I liked the funny illustrations of this book, and will attract children mostly and not readers of my age(13) however I liked reading the book, and learning about the diseases.

The book was very informative. It had great illustrations and was very easy to understand. The layout was very unique and has interactive activities. This book not only gives the reader new and quirky information, it also encourages them to do some hands on activities, but constantly connects the topic back to real life, also giving some important advice on how to stay healthy. I do feel that the target audience is slightly younger than the red maple audience, but it contains a lot of information that I think will be new to readers at our age as well.

Children who enjoy science will enjoy this look into the world of microbes and the germs that can make us sick. The author's passion for the study of microbes is as infectious as the bugs she introduces us to. Reader's will learn about various diseases and how they interact with our bodies as well as the work scientists have done and are doing to keep us healthy and safe. Lots of interesting facts and information in a fun and visually interesting format.
