From Academy Award nominated director Julian Schnabel (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly), and based on the acclaimed semi-autobiographical novel, Miral is the story of a Palestinian girl coming of age amidst the war zone of the Israeli-Arab conflict -- unflinchingly told through the perspective of Miral (Freida Pinto, Slumdog Millionaire) herself. Following the death of her troubled mother, Miral's father (Alexander Siddig) is forced to entrust her to the orphanage of Hind Husseini (Hiam Abbass), a woman whose commitment to peace through education has a profound impact on the maturing young woman as her epic journey to self-esteem and social consciousness proves both harrowing and hopeful. Also starring Willem Dafoe and Vanessa Redgrave.

Very powerful movie. A great portrait of the Middle East conflict from the side that we don't often here from. The beginning is a bit tough to watch and the story rambles at times but definitely worth seeing.

“Miral” tells the story of a young woman trying to make sense of the world she was born in. The film sheds light on the plight of a people, subject to the injustices and cruelty of military occupation, while always maintaining hope for the next generation. I recommend watching this one.

The fact that Vanessa Redgrave is in it, should be enough to avoid this movie. Redgrave has been the spokeswoman for the anti-Israel crowd many, many years. But if this is not enough, think Steve Buscemi, Robert de Niro, Sean Pen and Josh Broling. Not enough? The UN sponsored the movie premier in the US. If you’re not yet convinced, well, watch the trailer: it is extremely revealing and I wish I had watched it beforehand! (And, no, I am not Jewish!) NOTICE: Attempts to censor (“Report this”) my comments will be fiercely fought under the aegis of American Libraries’ beloved principles: Freedom of Speech, Freedom to Read, Intellectual Freedom.

What a passionate movie.

Violence is not the answer to political problems. The movie shows a very humane side in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and is so convincing because it is a true story.

Anyone who liked "Sarah's key" which is currently playing in the movie halls, will enjoy "Miral" as well.

What a fantastic film! It intertwines a personal individual's story with a larger story of the history of the struggle in the Mid-East. It is refreshing to view a side of the story too seldom told, and finally brings the audience a little bit closer to the truth of the region.
