How many films made in 1960 have you seen recently?

Yet, THIS movie, shrugged off by "serious" film fans, still gets all these comments. Mostly positive, after over a half a century. You have to be over 60 to remember seeing this in a movie theatre at the time--as I did.

One of Disney's most popular movies (wow! Shipwrecked! Pirates! Wild animals!) it was the the 4th biggest box-office movie in a year behind Spartacus, Exodus, and Psycho.

Everyone knows those films. But Swiss Family Robinson??

Some things never change...or grow old.

The end is really good, another fun adventure movie. Pretty soon you will want your own tropical tree house to live in.

Swiss Family Robinson is a Disney classic that is worth revisiting. While I'm certainly not an expert on pirates, the ones in the movie are pretty laughable; it doesn't detract from the film too much though. Swiss Family Robinson is rated G.

Walt Disney guts yet another piece of classic literature, in this case Johann Wyss’ 1812 novel, and turns the remains into a kindergarten fantasy with cutesy critters, cartoon peril (the pirates look like an Indonesian drag revue), and the coolest treehouse ever built. Parents John Mills and Dorothy McGuire assume the proper gender roles—he saws logs, she coos over gingham drapes—while the two older boys struggle with adolescent hormones (James MacArthur looking just fine sans shirt) and the youngest runs wild and free (Kevin Corcoran cloying audiences to the point of nausea). It all ends happily ever after of course and some of the wildlife sequences are superbly filmed even though the rough treatment of the animals would be illegal today. Sure to charm the preschoolers but I liked the Robinsons better when they were lost in space.

We need more simple stories such as this. A treat to not have to worry about kids swearing or trying to over-act as little adults.

Great movie. I loved this as a kid and I love it even more now. If this doesn't make you dream about building your own treehouse, I don't know what will!
