Jack’s independent mother, Charlotte Thornton arrives in Hope Valley and instantly clashes with Elizabeth on everything from cooking to housework. Elizabeth offers to house Jack’s Ma in an effort to befriend her. Elizabeth also befriends a neighboring settlement and encourages the families to allow their children to attend school, offering to bring Hope Valley students with her to educate the settlement children. Reluctant to agree at first, the mothers change their minds after hearing Jack sing Elizabeth’s praises. But with progress comes tribulation as flooding hits the settlement, destroying the mine and the surrounding area. Jack and the men of Hope Valley risk life and limb to save the settlement residents and bring everyone back to safety. Rosemary is swept up in planning her wedding to Lee and ends up involving the entire town with her lofty wedding expectations until she selflessly offers to give away her wedding material to help the victims of the flooding and mining disaster. Finally, Mayor Henry Gowen and Bill Avery’s ex-wife Nora attempt to leave town with disastrous results.

I have been borrowing the DVD's at another library, since up until recently, my city library did not carry the series. I totally agree, it is a captivating and wonderful period show! NTM, Daniel is so cute.

Very interesting story of love and compassion. How people look out for others in this growing town. When tragedy strikes, people get together to help one and another. Good family movie, thoroughly enjoyed it.
