Awesome family movie! We all loved it and had tears, kids and adults.

In my mind, this is up there in the Disney pantheon with The Lion King, Jungle Boy, and Robin Hood. It has a depth that adults will enjoy, but also sparkling creativity. Every scene is loaded with detail, so that you can replay the movie just to see all there is to see. I take it down a half-notch because the songs, while effective for the story, are not catchy.

If you liked this film, you will probably like another animated film touching on the subject of remembering family members and following your dreams, The Book of Life (2014).
The DVD features an informative few minutes of looking at how they developed Dante, the dog's character.
For some reason there is a short animated Star Wars film that is included in the bonus material.

This film explores the concept of culture, family history, and following your dream all in one. Miguel is a young boy who dreams about becoming a famous musician, however his family has a long-time ban on music and he is left wondering why. After ending up in the Land of the Dead, Miguel encounters Hector who helps him on his quest to learn the truth about Miguel’s family. This movie brings new cultures into the mainstream, and uses music, dance, and colour in new and exciting ways. I would rate this film 4/5 stars, and recommend it to anyone with a love for music and a curiosity for different cultures and family. @The_Reviewer of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library

This film turned out better than I expected! The topic of family and acceptance of your dreams was quite relatable for me. As with many Pixar films, expect to have some tears. Worth a watch!

This movie was so good, and it made me cry happy tears!

I loved the movie, far more than I thought I would. This is the closest Pixar has come to making a musical, and I appreciate the toned down antagonist. I'm not entirely comfortable or sold on the dual messages of 'family is the most important' and 'family can hold us back from being who we are/want to be'. The resolution at the end also feels a bit too happy, considering how the film built up and the climax was. And yet, instead of 4 and a 1/2 stars, I'm giving it 5, because of one scene that made me shed some tears.

If you come from a large Mexican family this is the movie for you. But, if you are adopted, an only child, a family that is not traditionally thought of as a family, or from a small family, this film will leave you feeling bad and rejected. I just don't like films that aren't inclusive.

I really like this movie! I was very surprised at first because I thought I would not like it because I was not a huge fan of the Book of life but overall I really enjoyed it . I recommend it to anyone who loves Spanish culture and Disney.

Overall, I thought this was a very good movie and appreciated the messages about following one’s dreams and the importance of family. I did not give it a full 5 stars for 2 reasons: (1) I think it might be a little scary for small children and (2) I thought it was a little one, especially for kids.

Many quotes in IMDb already and thanks to those contributors. Here is my favorite and an unexpected jargon from mijo to papi:

Miguel: [to Héctor] A minute ago I thought I was related to a murderer! You're a total upgrade!
[Héctor gives Miguel an annoyed look]

Apr 25, 2018

Héctor: [sings] Remember me, though I have to say goodbye / Remember me, don't let it make you cry / For even if I'm far away, I hold you in my heart / I sing a secret song to you, each night we are apart / Remember me, though I have to travel far / Remember me, each time you hear a sad guitar / Know that I'm with you, the only way that I can be / Until you're in my arms again, remember me...
