"In the new novel from the bestselling author of Final Girls, The Last Time I Lied follows a young woman as she returns to her childhood summer camp to uncover the truth about a tragedy that happened there fifteen years ago. Two Truths and a Lie. The girls played it all the time in their tiny cabin at Camp Nightingale. Vivian, Natalie, Allison, and first-time camper Emma Davis, the youngest of the group. The games ended when Emma sleepily watched the others sneak out of the cabin in the dead of night. The last she--or anyone--saw of them was Vivian closing the cabin door behind her, hushing Emma with a finger pressed to her lips. Now a rising star in the New York art scene, Emma turns her past into paintings--massive canvases filled with dark leaves and gnarled branches that cover ghostly shapes in white dresses. The paintings catch the attention of Francesca Harris-White, the socialite and wealthy owner of Camp Nightingale. When Francesca implores her to return to the newly reopened camp as a painting instructor, Emma sees an opportunity to try to find out what really happened to her friends. Yet it's immediately clear that all is not right at Camp Nightingale. Already haunted by memories from fifteen years ago, Emma discovers a security camera pointed directly at her cabin, mounting mistrust from Francesca and, most disturbing of all, cryptic clues Vivian left behind about the camp's twisted origins. As she digs deeper, Emma finds herself sorting through lies from the past while facing threats from both man and nature in the present. And the closer she gets to the truth about Camp Nightingale, the more she realizes it may come at a deadly price"-- Provided by publisher.

Had me guessing and looking over my shoulder. This book is INSANE. Honestly did not see the final twist coming.

It took me waaaaay too long to finish this but blame Animal Crossing. It started off well and I got deliciously creeped out by the atmosphere developed at a secluded summer camp where bad things happened. But the last third lost momentum and got repetitious and became a drudge. My second by Sager and the first I read was a little better but he's not an author I like enough to continue reading.

The perfect thriller.

It seems that I am taking a risk by making my comment because I was not as impressed as all the others so far. It was a enjoyable read up to a point but I did not like the repetition of the facts of the girl's disappearance over and over. I will admit to liking the twist at the end. So I do recommend the book.

Anyone who has seen '70s and '80s horror films knows that summer camp can be a creepy experience. This book takes that to a modern level in this twisty, suspenseful thriller. Highly recommended for fans of mysteries, psychological thrillers, and of course, 'campy' horror films.

Same author as Lock Every Door

Loved this book! If you enjoyed Final Girls, you will definitely enjoy The Last Time I Lied as well. Final Girls was a lot more gruesome, but this one played out as more of a psychological thriller. There were so many times throughout the book when I thought I knew exactly what was going on, but in reality I had no idea. By the last few chapters I was kind of thinking "really? that's it?", BUT then i got to the last few pages and WOW the ending completely blew me away. This is a definite must read.

I was quickly immersed in this book within the first several pages. It's full of unexpected twists and turns, that kept me up well past midnight unable to put it down. I was a quick read because I had to know how it ends. And the ending... "wow" - didn't see that coming.

I had never heard of this author and decided to check out TLTIL based on a recommendation. I read the book over the course of two days and absolutely LOVED it! I did not want to put it down, and the twist was something I did not see coming!

“Although their eventual fate remains a mystery, I'm certain that what happened to those girls is all my fault.”

“Anyway, that's the lesson I learned today, Every woman is crazy. The ones who can't hide it well enough are shit out of luck.”
