In a futuristic society where choices are made for you. You don’t get to pick who you love, where you work or die. Cassia has always believed that this was right and that the decisions should be left to the officials. She has been waiting for the day to be finally paired up with her ideal job and partner. However, during her match day, something unexpected happens and now she is faced with the decision of living life the way it is carved for her or living it the way she wants to. I liked reading this first book of the Matched series. It was an interesting concept since the dystopian society had officials make the most important decisions for its civilians. I loved reading Cassia’s development, compared to the beginning of the book you can see that she has changed as we get to see what her personality is really like as she begins to make her own decisions. I would recommend this book to dystopian lovers since the characters as well as the plot will make you captivated.

Matched is a very unique story, and is unlike anything I've read. It takes place in a dystopian society where people at the age of 17 are matched with a partner they have to spend the rest of their lives with. The main character Cassia Reyes has been waiting for her Match day for a very long time. But when she gets her partner it ends up being her best friend Xandar. In the middle of the story a glitch is revealed and shows a boy named Ky would be a better match. Cassia feels lost, and doesn’t know what to do. Read the rest of the story as she struggles to figure out what her true feelings are, and to see what happens in the end. This book was very good at some parts, and the first few chapters especially intrigued me. But in parts of the middle and end it became a little bit boring for me, so I did have to power read a little. Overall I do recommend it for mature teens who like semi love stories. Some similar books include The Selection, and at points Hunger Games.

Life is safe and easy for Cassia, until Ky moves into her neighborhood. Ky is different; he knows about choices and secrets, forcing Cassia to choose between a life of perfection or a life of freedom. Book one in this romantic and rebellious trilogy, is a perfect match for fans of The Hunger Game series.

Matched by Ally Condie is a dystopian novel where the “Society” decides everything in their lives- whom to marry, where to work, where to live, where to play, when you die. Cassia, a 17 year-old girl, faces a big decision when choosing between her best friend and a boy with a special identity. This book illustrates the cautions Cassia takes when searching for her true love and the hate she has towards how the society functions. Cassia imagines everything is perfect in her life until a glitch appears after she has been paired with her best friend. Will she go beyond the society rules or will she remain safe? I like the setting of this book which shows the reader a different society. The characters are created with different personalities that go with the plot. However, I didn’t like how the plot moves so slow in the middle and doesn’t contain many turning points. Overall, I would recommend this book to people who enjoy dystopian and futuristic novels like Divergent.

Those who liked Divergent will like Matched. In this dystopian society story, Cassia is matched with her best friend as future husband and life partner. He fits with the job she plans to have and the life she plans to lead, but for a moment, Ky flashes on the screen as her match. Was it a computer glitch or is he her perfect match? These questions lead Cassia to question everything she has known her whole life including the values and structure of her society.
I loved this book. It is one of my favorites. Personally I liked it better than Divergent.

"Matched" by Allie Condie transports you to a dystopian society where everything is controlled and in perfect order. In this society, boys and girls are matched with their partners at the Match Banquet. 17-year-old Cassia Reyes thinks everything is perfect when she sees her best friend appear on the screen up until it glitches and shows a different face. She then has to choose between Xander and Ky. In my opinion, this is a weaker dystopian novel than many other popular ones. The society is similar and repetitive to many out there, but I think this is the case because Cassia’s relationships were the main aspect of the plot. I thought I would be able to finish the book faster than I did, but it was slow and didn’t have that much action as I expected. I think that readers will either like it or hate it, and though I expected more, I liked it mostly because of Cassia and her development throughout the story. I do think this is a great read for young girls because it delivers some amazing quotes that were quite empowering for me to read.

Such an awesome book! Cassia's life is practically controlled by the Society, but can she evade them and choose her rightful Match?

jcljessicaj Apr 22, 2020

I do love a good dystopian drama! In this society the government controls all - including who you're to be matched with at age 17. But is there a flaw in the system? And how far will Cassia go to find out?

In a futuristic world, The Society runs everything involving its citizens including their food, jobs, houses, and even soulmates. Cassia Reyes is a typical teenage girl living in Maple Tree Borough, but once her Matching Ceremony takes place where she is meant to find her life-long partner, her life is turned upside down when things don't go quite as planned. This well written Young Adult novel is similar to The Giver by Lois Lowry however, it is less intense and more suitable for younger ages.

That's what happened to the society before ours. Everyone had technology, too much of it, and the consequences were disastrous. Now, we have the basic technology we need-ports, readers, scribes-and our information intake is much more specific... Such specialization keeps people from becoming overwhelmed. We don't need to understand everything. And, as the Society reminds us, there's a difference between knowledge and technology. Knowledge doesn't fail us.
