Jina Modell works in Communications for a paramilitary organization, and she really likes it. She likes the money, she likes the coolness factor--and it was very cool, even for Washington, DC. She liked being able to kick terrorist butts without ever leaving the climate-controlled comfort of the control room.

But when Jina displays a really high aptitude for spatial awareness and action, she's reassigned to work as an on-site drone operator in the field with one of the GO-teams, an elite paramilitary unit. The only problem is she isn't particularly athletic, to put it mildly, and in order to be fit for the field, she has to learn how to run and swim for miles, jump out of a plane, shoot a gun...or else be out of a job.

Team leader Levi, call sign Ace, doesn't have much confidence in Jina--who he dubbed Babe as soon as he heard her raspy, sexy voice--making it through the rigors of training. The last thing he needs is some tech geek holding them back from completing a dangerous, covert operation. In the following months, however, no one is more surprised than he when Babe, who hates to sweat, begins to thrive in her new environment, displaying a grit and courage that wins her the admiration of her hardened, battle-worn teammates. What's even more surprising is that the usually very disciplined GO-team leader can't stop thinking about kissing her smart, stubborn mouth...or the building chemistry and tension between them.

Meanwhile, a powerful Congresswoman is working behind the scenes to destroy the GO-teams, and a trap is set to ambush Levi's squad in Syria. While the rest of the operatives set off on their mission, Jina remains at the base to control the surveillance drone, when the base is suddenly attacked with explosives. Thought dead by her comrades, Jina escapes to the desert where, brutally tested beyond measure, she has to figure out how to stay undetected by the enemy and make it to her crew in time before they're exfiltrated out of the country.

But Levi never leaves a soldier behind, especially the brave woman he's fallen for. He's bringing back the woman they left behind, dead or alive.

Some parts were interesting but ultimately it was pretty boring. The so-called villain’s plan and execution was pretty lame. Definitely not a book I’ll remember reading. In my opinion, one of Linda Howard’s worst books to date.

I really enjoyed this book, mainly because I grew attached to all the characters. I also really appreciated the snark the main character had while dishing it out to the other characters, or just her internal monologue. I will say this, it was mainly about "Babe" getting onto the team and earning the respect of the other members which I worked for me, but if you are looking for a ton of action and suspense this may not be the book for you. By the end I was quite attached to the characters so I was fine with the ending, but it was a little flat... However, this is my first book by this author and, I am excited to read other books by her.

A good book but Linda Howard has done better. It was as though she was in a hurry, especially towards the end, and this disappointed me. I really liked the characters and the storyline was good… It was all there but fell sort of flat.

What a great book! This is the kind of romance suspense that I haven’t read in awhile - and have been missing. Smart, sexy and sweet.

I loved this book so much. It is one of my favorite Linda Howard books. I want to be 'Babe' in this book. I could not put it down. I would love more of the 'Go Team' from Linda Howard.

Loved the heroine in this book. Characters were very personable. Loved how the characters have Jina working toward a goal. Their work ethic and love for each other will warm your heart.

Loved it! The heroine is gutsy and sarcastic and easily identified with as she struggles to maintain/establish equality in an all male environment. Linda Howard injects enough suspense and action to turn this from a romance into an action novel with a soft side.

While The Woman Left Behind is a standalone title, it follows the action of Troublemaker (2016) and brings us further into the lives of the GO-Team members. When the GO-Team director decides to add techs to each of the secret military teams, Jina Modell must adapt both physically and mentally to her new position. I enjoyed the mix of humor and action in this romantic suspense novel. I'm hoping for at least one more GO-Team book, maybe we'll get to know Kodak next.

Jina "Babe" went from a desk job to training to be on a GO TEAM for all types of missions. She first has to pass training with the guys like she's never done before. There is a suspense romance and it had inserts of drama while on missions. Really enjoyed the writing style and mix of events in this book.

This is a chic lit/romance novel trying to masquerade as an espionage novel. Some of the information (about the bird like drone) was very interesting. The training part, becoming part of a team interesting. The plot to take out the team - in need of work.

If there is nothing else on our shelf to read, this will do. It is better than many other chic lit/romance novels. But the espionage could have been better.
