Very slow, and I kept waiting for something to come together and make sense.
Honestly, took an hour and a half before anything connected, and it felt like longer.

Wonderful and appealing child actors, but very frustrating that the movie didn't make better use of its interesting subject. Story not helped by amateurish camera work, and some scenes were hopelessly dark.

I loved the movie. It deserves to be watched by more people. Probably slow going for most young kids. But a great story with a heart felt ending.

this film is lost, maybe the idea started out good but the film isn't

This movie is a mess. I could never tell what it wanted to be or accomplish. It is two period pieces in one, but the connection between them doesn't really pay off. Also, *SPOILER* this movie employs the plot cliche (Star Wars?) that the ultimate twist is that someone is a lost family member. But the characters just don't behave in a way that rings true, rather they try to build presentation using movie edits. If a lost homeless kid stumbles into your store, just tell him what he needs to know so he can feel safe and stop searching. Instead, the characters are like "come with me" and take him on a bus ride across town. Don't leave the poor kid hanging for 18 blocks on the bus! In the movie it appears as a cut lasting seconds, but I wonder what that ride was like:
"Excuse me, can you just tell me what you want me to know? There is nothing else I want to talk about and awkwardly staring out the window is getting old. There are still five stops to go!"

Engaging original premise on the deep yearning to search for self-identity and how two young lives converged to American Museum of Natural History and Queens Museum in NYC. It was Millicent "Millie" Simmonds first film performance. Perhaps with better material/experience/director, her second act improved in "A Quiet Place 2018." Agree with everyone that it was too long but suspected that the director was showing off the production sets and costumes of the two eras.

I really wanted to like this more especially since I loved Hugo and there are many good elements to this movie, but I wonder who was the intended audience? It is very slow and esoteric for children and teens will not like it at all. It is more a movie for older adults who will appreciate the 1970’s authenticity. It is even filmed in this yellowish tint as were a lot of movies from that decade which lends a good feel, but is also a bit irritating. The sequences filmed for the era of silent films are less convincing though. This is a bit of a time travel movie done with flashbacks, but the themes are a unfortunately overly mixed. If it had stayed a story about family history that would be one thing, but it mixes in a disability theme as well as a theme about friendship, parental estrangement, death, appreciation about history, well you get the picture. It is worth seeing if you like sentimental films, which I do, but don’t go in expecting a fast paced, funny or typical Disney type movie. Julianne Moore displays her usual overwrought performance, but Millicent Simmonds (A Quiet Place) gives a solid performance which pushes the needle for me to say it is worth a look.

Wonderstruck is wonderful. In addition to being an excellent and deeply moving children's film that doesn't pander to its young audience, director Todd Haynes does some amazingly innovative stuff that makes this a treat for all ages. It's too mature for younger kids, but it's an excellent choice for the 8+ crowd (or fans of Brian Selznick's novel).

Some redeeming qualities but essentially the storyline is very contrived and hard to believe. Michelle Williams is almost non existent and Julianne Moore's talents are wasted! Sorry can't recommend!

A curator's job is an important one, for it is the curator who decides what belongs in the museum. In a way, anyone who collects things in the privacy of his own home is a curator. But how did the very first curators store their collections? They were kept in pieces of furniture called Cabinets of Wonder. Eventually, some collections grew beyond the confines of a single cabinet and took over entire rooms.
