The small town of Lachlan, Florida, was rocked last year when two bodies were uncovered in the roots of a fallen tree. Despite their lack of investigative experience, Sara Medlar, her niece Kate, and Jack Wyatt found themselves at the center of the mystery, working together to reveal the truth behind a decades-old secret in the sleepy town. After a narrow escape, they vowed to never again involve themselves in something so dangerous--until Janet Beeson is murdered. When Janet's body is discovered, everyone is shocked by the violence of the attack. The sweet little old woman has been shot, stabbed and poisoned, but no one can imagine who would want to harm one of the town's kindest, most helpful residents. Sara, Kate and Jack are determined to leave this case to the professionals. But they are soon bombarded by townspeople eager to tell their stories and clear their names with the trio who solved the Morris murders. Even the sheriff is hoping they'll lend their skills to a crime that seems to have no explanation and no motive. And once the town gets talking, they begin to see that there are more secrets buried in quiet Lachlan than anyone could have imagined.

I didn't like this novel. Too much chit chat among the characters that goes on for pages. Too many characters, all of whom live in the same community, and apparently are related by being either immediate family members, ex-s, cousins, nieces/nephews, uncles, aunts, grandparents - and, oh yes, just friends. A family tree would be of help to keep the names and relationships straight as it is these relationships that will give motives for the murder. The construction of the story is such that it starts with an interesting beginning - a most unusual murder. But that is really the middle of the story. The start of the story is about half way through and, then, slowly winds down to conclude the murder mystery as motives for the murder are revealed. The plot is about the secrets that all of these characters have, but each of these secrets had been ferreted out by an elderly woman in the town who had the reputation of being kindly, but wasn't. When she is murdered, the question arises, "Who did it?". I don't think I'll read another of this author's books based on the style of writing evident in this book.

It’s very interesting. I would definitely recommend it even if you haven’t read the first one, A Willing Murder. The book is very well written and includes a lot of detail that can make you visualize what is happening.

(Review Not on Blog)

Sarah (writer), Kate (real estate agent) and Jack (house contractor) have refused to get involved in another murder case. But when you live in a small town what you want to do may not be your choice. People, afraid of being accused, start showing up in the middle of the night asking the trio to clear their name. Soon their curiosity and fate has them in the thick of past secrets. This is a perfect light (contemporary) mystery/romance read. I listened to this one on audio and enjoyed the narrator.

I really liked the first in this series (A Willing Murder), so I would try any third, but would the skim blurb carefully before starting it. This one was a very uncomfortable read. Too many really evil actions involved in the plot. I would not recommend it, especially if it would be read before bed.

Several characters to keep tack of made it a little confusing. Ending was a disappintment

Great Book didn't want to put down. Had me guessing all the time of who done it. And the ending was very interesting!!!!
