Great fun!
This is a really fun read-aloud that is perfect for involving young listeners.
Funny read-aloud story with colorful illustrations. Kids will howl and adults will laugh, too as the narrator tries to count monkeys with some very unexpected results.
The best aspect of Barnett's book is the interactive instructions, such as when he asks for a vote of whether the plural of mongoose is "mongooses" or "mongeese." He also instructs listeners to scare off grizzly bears by banging pots and pans and shouting "Roar!" Almost every page gives you something to do, whether it's covering your eyes or giving high fives. All of this makes Count the Monkeys the rare sort of book that seamlessly combines reading and playing into one grand activity.
Great read-aloud for groups. A hit with kindergarteners!
A ton of fun, interactive and with great illustrations. First saw this at a Storytime session — 30 three-to-five-yr-olds all loved it and followed the book's instructions. Lots of humour for the parents too. Highly recommended for kiddos who are learning their numbers and who can partake in the activities ("Cover your eyes", "Say 'Scram!'", etc).
This is a really fun & interactive picture book! As you turn the pages, you can't "count the monkeys" because something else has come along to chase the monkeys off. Readers are asked to do various things to chase off the things that have chased off the monkeys! It's fun!
