An excellent little primer. This is Aryeh Kaplan's brilliant and efficient rundown of general meditation, the history of Jewish meditation, and the beginnings Jewish meditation practice. For tons of Jews who left their synagogues to join (often Buddhist) meditation practices, this may be of interest. This may also be of use to younger Jews who barely even stayed at the shul past high school because it felt so stifled. Just within the last two centuries, a Jewish practice of meditation that was over a millennium old has nearly disappeared, leaving many introspective Jews trying to find other ways of meditating. This book outlines the deep history of Jewish meditation and then proceeds to give clear and useful information about how to start your own Jewish meditation.
