Characters: 8/10 Plot: 10/10 Writing: 10/10 Oh man, this book just grabbed me by the front of the shirt and yanked me through the whole thing. The mystery from the first book is still there; we still don’t know who Thomas is, or what WICKED is doing, or how any of these trials will help save humanity. This mystery is such a powerful driving force in reading this series, and I’m dying to understand it all. Some of the images were pretty disturbing, which was simultaneously admirable because of how well they were written and how they added to the intensity of the plot, but also made it unenjoyable at some points (however, they were completely appropriate for the genre and mood of the book). I literally grimaced at some points when I was reading. As far as characters go…I’m not sure I saw much character development, but there wasn’t really an appropriate time for that kind of thing in such a plot-driven novel. I’m not sure what I thought of the whole “Betrayer” plotline. I’m also really unsure of what’s up with Brenda. There was a lot of unconsciousness…not necessarily good or bad, just an observation.
