I do believe I enjoyed this one more than the first one. This is also very different in feel and in writing than the first one. Where "Half a King" felt a lot like it was being spoken aloud and reminded me of sagas, "Half the World" almost felt like the first book in a series and was a different way of telling the hero's tale that was told in the first book. Thorn is a fighter but she is a girl, which if a bit problematic. Her daring ends up with her being named a murderer and is this close to being killed herself when she swears an oath to now Father Yarvi to do whatever he needs if only he'll decide that she lives. Be very careful what you wish for and be careful who you swear oaths too and what they are. Yarvi was our protagonist from "Half a King" but getting a look at him from outside of his point of view you get a much different man. Very, very compelling. Thorn goes off on a journey with Yarvi and his crew, familiar faces from "Half a King" and a few new ones and learns a whole lot during the near year long journey as Yarvi tries to gain allies in a way against the High King. There's a little bit of everything here, lots of women who are really strong and fighters in many different ways, but also a fair smattering of brave and fighting men in many different ways as well. I'm glad I decided to continue with this series.
