As others have noted, this very long book is front heavy, leaving not enough space for the ending. That leaves several highly important plot lines dangling. Still, there is no way Gabaldon can write a truly bad book. This one is a page turner, and while some plot lines are highly odd, the main characters end up where they need to be at the end. Except for Jem, left in a highly precarious position, and Claire and Jamie, whose marriage is equally precarious, through no fault of their own. Fortunately, I have the next one in the series is already on hold. Hopefully Jem will be rescued, and his grandparents will be out of danger.
