This is an awful movie: constant swearing using the same 2 or 3 swear words endlessly over and over by nearly every character except her coach. Endless violence towards Tonya at every stage of her life by her mother and boyfriend/husband. Constant poverty, constant smoking, constant drinking. Her life seemed to be dominated by those 2 plus her bf's violent friend. Everyone was manipulative, everyone lied, everyone blamed someone else for their many problems. There is absolutely nothing uplifting or pleasant anywhere in the story. Allison Janney did not so much act as she avoided acting; she had no affect at all. I do not understand why the movie got nominated for an Academy Award, but then I didn't like any of the other nominees, either, that I have seen so far. The only positive comment I have is that I am profoundly glad I have not spent any money on any of these films. The only nominee that I haven't seen yet is "The Post," and I have hope, still, in its being worth watching. This one was most definitely not.
