John Grisham’s The Guardians is a book that follows “innocence” lawyer, Cullen Post, who tries to free innocent men from prison. This book started off promising and overall kept its stature. While it did have a few slow and boring parts, these were easily overshadowed by the rest of the novel. The beginning is very good at sliding the reader into the setting and allows us to quickly grasp what is going on. The middle portion moved faster with the story and plot and only had a few bland spots. The ending could have been improved but overall, it still fit with the books theme. A major effect in this book is the plot twists that occur in almost every chapter. While some may have been predictable, others were far from it. Cullen Post is a character who shows the audience that no matter how corrupt the system may be, there are still people who will fight against it and stand up for those who suffered injustice. 4.5/5 stars. @Basilisk_0 of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board
