The final book in the Percy Jackson pentalogy series, The Last Olympian is the final showdown between Kronos’ army and everyone that stands in his way. The Last Olympian is the culmination of the four books before it, tying together every plot thread in a way that is emotionally charged, action-packed, and well-written. Although the pacing can be a bit fast, the writing is clever and full of revelations and twists. Riordan excellently orchestrates his large and developed cast of characters, giving many a moment to shine and fulfilling their series long arcs. Even minor supporting characters are given moments to shine, and not one seems flat or dull. There are legitimate stakes in the story, and Riordan builds the tension and danger masterfully. (Readers should be aware this is the most violent and darkest book in the series, although there are plenty of light-hearted jokes to lighten the mood). A powerful, emotional, and satisfying conclusion to the Percy Jackson pentalogy, The Last Olympian is a must read. Rating: 5/5 Age Rating: 10+
